Anina Rich, MPsych, PhD
Anina Rich is a professor in the Department of Cognitive Science at Macquarie University. She is fascinated by the human brain and the way in which it creates a wealth of human experience, which is reflected in her research. She explores how the brain constructs our perception through the interaction between the senses and our internal knowledge and goals, with a strong emphasis on the mechanisms of attention. She also studies people with synesthesia, an unusual phenomenon in which ordinary events (e.g., a sound) result in extraordinary experiences (e.g., seeing a color), as a unique window into how the brain constructs our multisensory perception of the world around us.
